In audiotape devices with CPS circuit, the fast tape run is switched off when a pause located between two recordings is reached so that the following piece of music can be heard. The fast tape run must not be too great because otherwise there is a risk that the tape runs across the pause which leads to a loss of information. In the invention, a CPS circuit is combined with a reversing circuit. In the CPS function, the fast tape run is unlatched by a reverse circuit when the pause has been detected and the audio tape runs at normal speed, opposite to the previous direction of playing. If then the pause is detected again, further reverse-switching occurs and the desired piece of music can be replayed.
