An improvement of the damping effect of impact protection pads for protective helmets and crash helmets with destruction of impact work is achieved in that the walls of air chambers of a layer of such air chambers have air outlet throttle apertures inside the impact protection pad so that the individual air chambers do not, as air springs, pass on the impact force to the head to be protected, but part of the impact work is destroyed by throttling the air flowing out of the air chambers under the action of a locally bounded impact force.
