Lightweight alloy tailgate for cargo areas of motor vehicles

A lightweight alloy tailgate is composed of several extruded aluminium profiles. Two anchoring points are provided in a plane running essentially perpendicular to the profiles. Successive profiles are connected to one another by joining one to the other in a tilted fashion and turning according to the snap-lock principle. A considerable increase in the dimensional stability and rigidity of the tailgate is obtained if the ratio of the distance from the centre of rotation to the nearest end of the support face of the support bearing associated with the said centre of rotation to the thickness of the profile is approximately 0.4 to 0.25 and the ratio of the distance of the centre of rotation of the spring hook from its support face to the thickness of the profile is approximately 0.17 to 0.10.
