<p>1,3,4,9-Tetrahydro pyrano (3,4-6) indole 1-acetic acids of formula (I), in which R1 is H, halogen, lower alkyl or alkoxy, acyloxy, lower halo-alkyl or -alkoxy, and R2 is lower alkyl, for pharmaceutical use as anti-inflammatory agents, are made by (a) condensing 3-(2-hydroxy ethyl) indole cpds of formula (II) with the keto-thioester of formula (III) in presence of acid catalysts e.g. p-toluene sulphonic acid or P205, in inert solvent, to give cpds. offormula (IV); and (b) hydrolysis with KOH in aq., aq.-alcoholic or alcoholic medium.</p> |
