Alpha-sulfonyloxyketone acetal (I) [R1=hydrogen, alkyl; Ar=aromatic ring; R3, R4=alkyl; R5=alkyl, aromatic group! is prepd. for use as a starting material of alpha-aromatic substd. alkanate. 9.81g of p- toluenesulfonyl chloride is dissolved in 10 ml of anhydrous pyridine and 6.65g of alpha-hydroxy propiophenone dimethyl acetal in 10ml of anhydrous pyridine is added into the soln. for 10 mins and then this mixt. is stirred for 48hr. This mixt. is stirred for 2hrs in an ice bth, and then filtered and washed and dried t give 10.91g of alpha- (p-toluene sulfonyloxy) propiophenone dimethyl acetal.
