PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording and reproducing method and apparatus that can prevent faults of missing a photographing chance or the like. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing apparatus is provided with a magnetic tape 203a, a system control section 205 that discriminates whether a memory card 204a is loaded into a recording and reproducing device body depending on the presence of a reply from the memory card 204a, and a plurality of mode functions for recording/reproduction to/from the magnetic tap 203a and the memory card 204a. The system control signal 205 differentiates the time period for the loading detection of the memory card 204a, depending on a plurality of the modes as its control. |
