The invention relates to novel alpha -methyl ketones of the formula in which R1 denotes a C1-C2-alkyl group, R2 denotes a hydrogen atom, a C1-C2-alkoxy or C1-C2-alkylthio group and the broken line denotes a single or double bond, with the proviso that R1 is a methyl group if the broken line represents a double bond, to processes for their preparation, and to their use as perfumes and/or flavourings.
