A toner for developing latent electrostatic images comprising particles is disclosed, which is composed of a mixture of a colorant and/or magnetic material, a binder agent and a charge controlling agent of the formula wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 each represent an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group; and X represents an anionic functional group.
