PURPOSE:To prevent non-plating and powdering and to form an Al alloy layer having superior corrosion resistance when a metallic surface is plated with an Al alloy by electrolysis with a molten salt bath, by adding a specified amount of Mn to the Al alloy for plating. CONSTITUTION:When the surface of an ordinary steel material, a Ti material or a stainless steel material is plated with an Al alloy by electrolysis with a molten salt bath, a chloride type molten salt bath giving an Al alloy having a composition represented by a formula Al-Mn-X (where X is at least one among Fe, Co, Ni, Zn and Sn) and contg. 1-30wt% Mn and 1-20wt% X is used as the electrolytic bath. A smooth and dense Al alloy layer having superior corrosion resistance is formed by electroplating at >=20A/dm<2> current density with high current efficiency without producing powder or dendrite.
