PURPOSE:To facilitate the start of an automobile on a slope, by enabling a brake force to be held until a sufficient drive force is transmitted to wheels during the automobile being stopped on a slope, etc. CONSTITUTION:When an automobile comes to a stop on a slope, etc., a torque in the direction opposite to the rotating direction of the automobile during running of the automobile, is effected upon a disc rotor which has been rotated together with a wheel, so that a friction force effected between the disc rotor 80 and friction pads 78, 81 is directed in the direction reverse to that effected before. With this arrangement, the pads 78, 81 are pushed rightward, overcoming the sum of the resilient force of a retainer 89 and the force of a spring incorporated in a switch. The switch 90 is turned on to energize a coil so that a piston is moved leftward to allow a valve ball to seat the end of an opening section, thereby a brake pressure is maintained. When a accelerator pedal is depressed in a half-clutch condition in order to start the automobile, the switch 90 is turned off to deenergize the coil.
