PURPOSE:To improve endurance, by employing Fe-A1-Si alloy having a particular weight distribution as magnetic power used for a magnetic powder type electromagnetic clutch or brake. CONSTITUTION:A gap 6 between a driving clutch 3 and a driven clutch 6 is filled with magnetic powder. Fe-A1-Si magnetic power alloy is used as the magnetic powder which is composed of silicon of 1-8 weight percent, aluminum of 3-8 weight percent, and iron of the substantially remaining weight percent, in which the total amount of the silicon and the aluminum is 5-12 weight percent. With this arrangement, a magnetic powder type electromagnetic clutch having excellent magnetic, acid proofing, wear resisting, and mechanical characteristics is obtained.
