A noncontinuous process for obtaining combustible carbonaceous products from wood or moist vegetable matter. The latter is placed in an enclosure, the drying, the pyrolysis and the cooling are performed successively in the single enclosure, the drying being produced by introducing heat by circulating a hot gaseous stream surrounding the enclosure and outside the latter, the enclosure being closed. The treatment device comprises a single enclosure 1 in which the wood is arranged, comprising a gas delivery conduit 5, a gas exit conduit 6, means 8, 12 for opening the delivery and exit conduits, an external jacket 14 comprising pipes 20 for delivering gas into the jacket 14 and for closing 21 the delivery pipe and a discharge pipe 30a for the pyrolysis gases.
