A device for making vehicles, especially motor vehicles, theft-proof, is to be devised which cannot be deactivated by an unauthorized person, is environmentally friendly and furthermore is permanently visible to bystanders, even when the vehicle is started by an unauthorized person. To this end, the device is designed to have a locking device 1 which is provided with a closing cylinder 2 and to have a signal body 3 which can be releasably interlocked with the said locking device 1. The locking device 1 is fixedly installed in the body of a vehicle, especially in the boot lid in the case of cars. To make the vehicle theft-proof, the signal body 3 is placed on the locking device 1 from outside and permanently connected to the latter by means of the closing cylinder 2. In an especially favourable fashion, the closing cylinder 2 is part of the ignition system of the vehicle and therefore interrupts ignition in the closed condition.
