An electro-pneumatic brake system for tractor vehicles which can be coupled to trailers is described, which has two independently acting operating circuits, actuable by means of a brake pedal (23) for controlling at least one compressed air feed circuit (I, II) to a plurality of wheel brake cylinders. For triggering emergency braking on the trailer in the event of a defective trailer brake line (25) an emergency venting valve (27) is provided between a compressed air reservoir (13) for the compressed air feed of the trailer brake device and a compressed air feed line (14) leading to the trailer brake device. In the event of a defective brake connection to the trailer brake device, the emergency venting valve (27) is switched by a control electronics unit (20), which is part of the one operating circuit. In order to safeguard the emergency brake function even in the event of a failure of the control electronics unit (20), the emergency venting valve (27) is also connected on the control side to the second operating circuit (24).
