The machine cuts plate material such as metal, having a fixed bottom knife and a top one working with it and moving downwards, and at an angle to it. Below the top knife are supports at intervals along the knives, spring-loaded in the vertical direction to clamp the strip to be parted off against the top knife. The top surface (16) of each support is narrow, and in the rest position it protrudes at least partly above the top of the bottom knife (1).
