PURPOSE:To improve the communication efficiency by storing temporarily the one-original information capacity or larger of picture data outputted from a decoding circuit and converting picture data outputted from a storage circuit in vertical and horizontal directions to output this data to a recording circuit. CONSTITUTION:When the plural originals of A5 size are transmitted continuously from an equipment 1 to an equipment 2, the equipment 2 receives code data from the equipment, which encodes successively picture data in the direction of an arrow A of originals of A5 size and transmits them onto a line, and decodes them by a decoding circuit 14 and stores temporarily picture data in a picture data storage circuit 13 in accordance with the storage address in the direction of the arrow A. After one-page components of picture data are stored completely, a vertical/horizontal converting circuit 12 is used to read out successively picture data stored in the circuit 13 in accordance with the storage address in the direction of an arrow B and supplies them to a recording circuit 11 to obtain the recorded picture of A5 size. Thus, a half of a original of A4 size is received equivalently for reception of the original of A5 size, and the communication efficiency is improved.
