PURPOSE:To improve positioning accuracy of a plate stock by using a projection capable of expanding and contracting and a hole fitting on the projection and eliminating the clearance between the projection and the hole to position the plate stock on a metal die for press working of the plate stock by the metal die. CONSTITUTION:Positioning between a metal die fixed on an upper and a lower die and a plate stock 6 to be worked is performed accurately when the plate stock 6 is put on the lower die 1 and press working is performed using the lower die 1 and the upper die 2. The plate stock 6 is positioned to the metal dies by inserting a pilot shaft 38 as a positioning projection into a positioning hole 14 set on the plate stock 6. The projection 38 has slits 40 extending from the bottom end to the upper intermediary point and slits 41 extending from the top end to the lower intermediary point. The projection 38 capable of expanding and contracting is inserted into the hole 14 of the plate stock 6 and is expanded to eliminate a gap and a play between the projection 38 and the hole 14, so that the plate stock 6 and the metal dies are positioned accurately.
