PURPOSE:To enhance the responsiveness of an engine during transient operation, and to enhance the output torque of the same, by setting the reference value of a comparison to a relatively low value in an operating condition in which knocking is liable to occur, and by setting the reference value to a relatively high value in an operating condition in which chunking hardly occurs. CONSTITUTION:A discrimination means (b) compares a first reference value with an output signal from a knocking detection means (a) composed of a pressure sensor or the like which detects variations in pressure in an engine cylinder of an internal-combustion engine and issues, as its output, variations in electrical value, and provided in each cylinder, and therefore, determines whether knocking occurs or not. Further, a knocking avoiding means (d) controls control elements in such a way that the ignition timing is retarded and so forth, in accordance with the result of determination by the knocking discrimination means (b), in order to avoid knocking. With the above- mentioned arrangement, a reference value control means (c) compares an output signal from the knocking detection means (a) with a second reference value (>first reference value), and determines a compensating value for computing the first reference value in accordance with the result of the comparison to control the magnitude of the first comparison reference value. |
