PURPOSE:To produce a foam which is lightweight and has excellent flameproofness, by frothing a mixture of basic AlCl3, an anionic surfactant, a chloroprene rubber latex, a crosslinking agent and water, and adding an inorg. reinforcing fiber. CONSTITUTION:4-10pts.wt. anionic surfactant (e.g. sodium lauryl sulfate), 20-60 pts.wt. (in terms of rubber component) nonionic carboxylated chloroprene rubber latex, 3-7pts.wt. at least one crosslinking agent therefor selected from among ZnO, MgO and Zn(OH)2 and 150-500pts.wt. water can blended with 100pts.wt. basic AlCl3. The mixture is stirred at 10 deg.C or below at a high speed to froth it, thus obtaining a creamy mixture. 20-80pts.wt. inorg. reinforcing fiber (e.g. aluminum silicate fiber) having a length of 5-15mm is added thereto, and the mixture is stirred at a low speed for 2-3min to disperse uniformly the fiber. The resulting mixture is put between laminates composed of a glass surface mat and an absorbent paper, and dried at a low temp. and low humidity.
