PURPOSE:To obtain stably a uniform metallic film having uniform quality regardless of a line speed by determining the deposition efficiency of the metal to be deposited on the surface of a material to be treated by an approximate equation, setting a current value from said efficiency and the actual line speed and executing a cathodic electrolysis treatment. CONSTITUTION:The relation between electrolytic current density and the deposition efficiency of the metal is approximated to the linear expression expressed by at least one equation eta=aiD+bi (eta; the deposition efficiency of the metal, D; the current density, ai, bi; constants) in the stage of depositing the metal by the cathodic electrolysis treatment on the surface of the material to be treated and forming the metallic film thereof. The treatment is then so controlled as to attain the electrolytic current I calculated by the equation I=k1(S+ k2)<1/2>-k3 (I; the current density, S; the speed of a steel sheet, k1, k2, k3; constants) in accordance with the above-mentioned linear approximate expression. The deposition of always the specified amt. of the metal is thus made possible even if the speed of the steel sheet fluctuates.
