PURPOSE:To make the weight and size of a fuel cell small and the thickness of the stack of the unit cells of the fuel cell uniform, by using end plates of the same dimensions as the outline of each unit cell to push and clamp the unit cells together. CONSTITUTION:After unit cells 20 are loosely stacked together, the pushing force of a pressing machine or the like is used to push the unit cells at the surface pressure of 2 to 10kg/cm<2> to prevent the leak of gas and liquid from the unit cells and keep the electric resistance of the joint of the unit cells from becoming high. The pushed unit cells 20 are pinched together with electrically- insulating end plates 19 between end plates 18 of the same dimensions as the outline of each unit cell and clamped thereon by bands 26 secured to the end plates 18 by screws 27. As a result, the weight and size of a fuel cell are made small. Besides, the stack of the unit cells is uniformly pushed to make the connection of an electrolyte film and electrode plates uniform to enhance the performance of the fuel cell. |
