PURPOSE:To equalize the recording time mode of a recording side to the recording time mode of the recorded tape of a reproducing side by detecting the recording time mode of the recorded tape by a reproducing device and matching the recording time mode of a recording device with the recording time mode of the recorded tape according to the detection signal. CONSTITUTION:The recording-side deck includes the same elements 2a-2l with 1a-1l and the same SWs 4-6 with SWs 1-SW 3. The Sws 4 and 5, however, are set on sides REC in dubbing and editing mode. An SW 7 is a manual/automatic changeover switch for the recording time mode of the recording-side deck during dubbing and editing and this switch is placed normally at its automatic side; and the recording time mode control signal 1m is sent to the capstan motor control part 2j of the recording side during the dubbing and editing, so that the recording side and reproducing side perform recording operation in the same recording time mode. Thus, the recording time mode control signal 1m of the reproducing side is sent to the recording-side deck R to set the recording time mode of the recording-side deck R to the same mode with the reproducing-side deck automatically.
