PURPOSE:To enable the display of the titled device which has a good color tone and a high reliability by forming an active element for driving the liquid crystal on a polyimide film substrate, and by controlling an optical strength of a light source so as to satisfy the relation that the ratio of red:green:blue is 1.8:3-4:30-50. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal substance 22 is sealed between the upper and lower substrates 13 and 21 having transparent electrodes 15 and 19 respectively. Polarizing plates 23 and 25 are provided on the both sides of the substrates 13 and 21 respectively to constitute the liquid crystal display element 10. A light source 37 composed of a phosphor layer 31 and an ultraviolet lamp 35 is provided on a back surface of the titled device. As the upper and lower substrates are made of the polyimide film, the substrates have the good heat resistance, but coloring balance is deteriorated due to strong yellow color of the substrates themselves. The intensity of the light is controlled so as to satisfy the relation that ratio of red:green:blue is 1.8:3-4:30-50 by adjusting the fluorescence particles 31 in order to intensity the intensity of the color except the yellow color. Thus, the display having the good color tone and the high reliability in the title device is obtd.
