PURPOSE:To increase the number of scanning lines sharply by selecting the DELTAnd of liquid crystal sealed between opposed transparent electrodes, the angle theta1 of orientation and the deflecting angle theta2 of polarizing plates in respectively specified ranges. CONSTITUTION:Substrates 6, 7 are constituted of glass plates 1, transparent electrodes 2, 3 and light distributing films 4 or 5 and the peripheral parts of the substrates 6, 7 which are opposed so that the electrodes 2, 3 are arranged between them 6, 7 are sealed with a sealing material 8. Liquid crystal 10 containing liquid crystal molecules 9 is injected into the gap between the substrates 6, 7 and the polarizing plates 11, 12 are adhered to the outsides of the substrates 6, 7. When the DELTAnd of the liquid crystal sealed between the electrodes 2, 3, the orientation angle theta1 of the liquid crystal molecules and the deflecting angles theta2 formed by the polarizing axes of the polarizing plates are selected in the ranges of 0.65-0.95mum, 0.65-0.95mum and 10-60 deg. respectively, the number of scanning lines can be sharply increased. |
