PURPOSE:To effectively obtain low Si pig iron by the stable operation of a blast furnace by charging iron ore having inferior reducibility among iron ores to be charged along the wall of the furnace so as to drop unreduced ore on the raceway. CONSTITUTION:When an ore layer 4 is formed on a coke layer 3 in a blast furnace, a larger amount of ores is charged at the center 2 of the furnace, a mountain M or a terrace T is formed in front of the wall 1 of the furnace, and ore 5 having inferior reducibility is put on the mountain M or the terrace T. By this method, the amount of raw ore dropped is regulated and the concn. of Si in pig iron tapped off can be lowered.
