PURPOSE:To inspect the appearance of a body speedily and inexpensively by detecting variation in the quantity of light caused by a moving object being a material body to be inspected by an optical sensor in the form of a time series of an electrical signal, and analyzing its aperiodicity. CONSTITUTION:A bearing is rotated at a constant rotating speed and irradiated with light from an optical fiber 17 from below. The irradiated light is transmitted through a holder, photodetected by optical fibers 18 and 19, and converted into an electrical signal (original signal) by a preamplifier circuit 22 or 23. The original signal is inputted to a comb-shaped notch filter to check the mean value of a signal after a signal component of frequency corresponding to a normal shape while the amplitude of the frequency component corresponding to the normal shape is evaluated without passing the signal through the comb- shaped notch filter. Then, an amplitude discriminating circuit 29 detects abnormality of claw clamping and a mean value discriminating circuit 30 detects a defect such as nonclamping. An amplitude discriminating circuit 31 detects the deformation of the holder and a mean value discriminating circuit 32 detects abnormality of the holder.
