PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic scale, by carving a groove with a laser beam in a base material made of non-magnetic metal such as stainless steel and a synthetic resin and then attaching a magnetic powder thereto to be welded with the laser beam. CONSTITUTION:As the base material 1 on a working platform 2 is fed with a NC controller 19 by a specified pitch in the direction X, it is stopped by a signal of an encoder 5 and a laser light is made to irradiated 12A it at a specified strength for a specified time with the control 18 of the generation 17 thereof to carve a groove with a fine width into the base material 1 oscillating the head of the equipment. Then, a magnetic powder 16 in a box 13 is fed by a fixed amount from a nozzle 15 moving the platform 2 and welded instantaneously with a laser beam 12A under a pressure as required while being magnetized by a coil 20. The welding of the magnetic powder is done in an inert gas or vacuum and after the welding, the magnetic powder on the groove is ground and smoothed to complete. thus, a highly accurate measuring apparatus can be obtained.
