PURPOSE:To obtain pitch carbon yarn suppressing occurrence of wedge-shaped cracks extending in the fiber axis direction, by setting a reticulated layer right above a spinning nozzle and passing spinning pitch through the reticulated layer and the spinning nozzle in this order. CONSTITUTION:Spinning pitch is passed through the reticulated layer 3, fed to the spinning nozzle 2 and spun. The size of the mesh is <=50 meshes, preferably <=100 meshes, more preferably <=200 meshes. The thickness of the reticulated layer is <=2mm, and the time for the spinning nozzle passing through the reticulated layer 3 to reach the spinning nozzle is set <=1min, preferably <=30sec, more preferably <=10sec.
