PURPOSE:To secure the proper tracking control despite the vibrations of an optical system due to the shift of a carriage by suppressing a tracking control action until the vibration amplitude of the optical system is reduced less than a fixed reference level. CONSTITUTION:An objective lens 5 undergoes the acceleration and deceleration during the shift of a carriage and starts vibrations. In a seeking mode a host CPU delivers a command to a carriage drive means 4 to shift a carriage 3 and also gives the information signal to a suppression means 11. Thus the means 11 opens a switch 10. As a result, the control signal to be applied to an objective lens driving coil 9 is cut off for suppression of the tracking control which is carried out with control of the lens 5.
