PURPOSE:To obtain an image having an excellent resolution, by providing an image forming element comprising an org. compd. having phase transition properties and a functional molecule, imparting a heat energy to the image forming element and, at the same time, inputting light signals corresponding to information and scanning the light signals. CONSTITUTION:A heat generating layer 2 is provided on a substrate 1. On the heat generating layer 2 is provided an image forming layer 3 comprising a film of a mixture of an org. compd. molecule having phase transition properties (e.g.: azo dyestuff of the formula I) with a functional molecule (e.g.: spiropyran compd. of the formula II), which exhibits its function upon being exposed to light, to form an image forming element 10. A heat energy 14 is imparted to the image forming element 10 with a heating means 13 to cause phase transition of the org. compd. molecule having phase transition properties, which softens the layer. At the same time, light signals 12 are input with a light signal inputting means 11 to cause a photochemical change of the functional molecule. Subsequently, the input light signals 12 are scanned with a scanning means to form an image.
