PURPOSE:To allow a ceramic layer to adhere to a metallic substrate with high adhesion by forming, by spraying, a low-m.p. alloy layer and a ceramic layer on the metallic substrate and then melting the low-m.p. alloy layer by use of high density energy heat rays in carrying out adhesion of ceramic layer to the metallic base material surface. CONSTITUTION:The surface of the metallic base material 1 such as steel for general structural use etc. is subjected to washing treatment and then to surface roughing by sandblast etc., on which the low-m.p. alloy layer 3 consisting of 50% Ni and 50% Cr is formed by spraying to 20mu thickness by use of a spray gun 2. Succeedingly, the ceramic layer 5 such as alumina etc. is formed by spraying to 300mu thickness by use of a spray gun 4, and then the high density energy heat ray 6 is irradiated from above the ceramic layer 5 to melt the low-m.p. alloy layer 3. The molten Ni-Cr alloy is infiltrated into pores 5a in the ceramic layer 5 and is simultaneously diffused into the metallic substrate 1 and solidified, so that firm adhesion between the metallic substrate 1 and ceramic layer 5 can be attained.
