PURPOSE:A hair treatment such as hair rinse, etc., having improved thickening properties, providing hair with improved feeling, containing a quaternary ammonium salt, a branched diol and a sulfuric ester or its salt. CONSTITUTION:A hair treatment containing 20-90wt% (preferably 40-75wt%) quaternary ammonium salt shown by the formula I (R1 is lanolin fatty acid residue; R2 is H or alkyl; R3-R6 are alkyl; l is 2-5), 10-80wt% (preferably 25-60wt%) branched diol (e.g., 2-methyl-2,4-pentanediol) shown by the formula II (R7-R10 are H or alkyl) and 0.1-10wt% (preferably 0.2-5wt%) sulfuric ester or shown by the formula III (A and B are H, alkyl or sulfonic group) or its salt. Since the hair treatment has improved thickening properties, a proper viscosity is easily obtained and used preferably as a shampoo because it has improved compatibility with an anionic surface active agent.
