PURPOSE:To obtain an aq. resin dispersion which is stable and gives a coating film having excellent corrosion resistance, by dispersing a partially bonded product of an acrylic resin and an arom. epoxy resin in an a.q. medium and then adding a phenolic resin thereto to effect uniform dispersion. CONSTITUTION:An acrylic resin (A) contg. 12-70wt% monbasic carboxylic acid monomer unit (e.g. acrylic acid) as an essential component and an arom. epoxy resin (B) contg. an average of 1.1-2 epoxy groups per molecule, obtd. by condensing bisphenol A with an epihalohydrin, are added to an aq. medium contg. ammonia or an amine in such an amount as to give a pH of 4-11. The mixture is heated to form a dispersion of a partially bounded product of components A and B, wherein an excess of carboxyl groups exist. A phenolic resin is then mixed with said dispersion and the mixture is stirred until a uniform, stable dispersion is obtd., thus, obtaining an aq. resin dispersion suitable for use as paint for coating the inner surfaces of cans.
