The invention relates to a pyrotechnic-chain breaker comprising a part 3 held spaced apart from the other elements of the chain and capable of being displaced into an operating position by a driving means in order to be aligned with said chain. Said driving means comprises a piston 2 fixed to said part 3 and capable of sliding in the bore of the body 1 of the breaker, a combustion chamber 10 adjacent to one face of said piston 2 and containing a pyrotechnic charge 11, a first detonating cord 13 connected to said pyrotechnic charge 11 and to an initiator 8, and a second detonating cord 7 connecting said initiator to the end of said pyrotechnic chain by means of a delay device 15. <IMAGE>
