A row of lanes separated by separating webs opens obliquely and in a staggered manner into a conveyor track for bottles or similar containers. The ends of the separating webs are formed by surfaces which extend parallel to or at an angle to the wall of the separating web or to the direction of transport of the bottles being advanced. Here, the ends of the separating webs are so thickened that the inlet into them does not exceed the diameter of a bottle. In the case of optimised geometry, when densely packed containers or bottles are advanced, their individual rows formed as a result of the packing each run exactly tangentially onto a cutting edge which is formed in each case on the end, pointing counter to the direction of transport, of each of the thickened portions.
