PURPOSE:To reproduce an optional image surface and to use a surface before a power source is turned off an it is even when the power source is turned on again by detecting and storing respective in-use surfaces of a sheet type board and also holding them. CONSTITUTION:Motors 25 and 26 are driven when the blackboard is reset and when a reflection type photosensor 34 detects a sensor mark on the sheet type board 1, a CPU 31 stops the motors and also initialize data in a RAM 32 for position detection. When the 1st surface is copied and the signal of the 2nd surface is detected by the sensor 34, the data in the RAM 32 are updated and the 2nd surface appears. If the 4th surface is indicated while the 3rd surface is in use, the sensor signal of the 3rd surface is disregarded and the data in the RAM 32 are updated when the 4th surface is detected, so that the 4th surface appears. Further, even when the power source is turned off temporarily, the data in the RAM 32 are not erased because of a backup battery 50.
