PURPOSE:To adsorb economically COD and pigments by bringing liq. to be treated into contact with a material obtained by inclusively immobilizing a mixture of microbes, activated carbon powder, a fine granular carbonaceous adsorbent, etc., in the permeable gel of an org. polymer resin and effecting a biological reaction. CONSTITUTION:A liq. to be treated is brought into contact with a material obtained by inclusively immobilizing a mixture of microbes, activated carbon powder, a fine granular carbonaceous adsorbent in the permeable gel of an org. polymer resin and a biological reaction is effected. Consequently, the supply of activated carbon is substantially dispensed with in the biological treatment of sewage by the combined function of microbes and activated carbon, the running cost can be remarkably reduced, the purification efficiency is further improved. Moreover, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon can be improved in the adsorption of COD and pigments.
