NEW MATERIAL:A compound expressed by formula I (R<1> is H or CH3). EXAMPLE:The compound expressed by formula II. USE:A material for contact lenses, paints, etc. capable of giving molded polymer articles having good heat, and weather resistance, flexibility, gas permeability, etc. PREPARATION:Trichlorosilane is subjected to addition reaction with allyl (meth) acrylate in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. solution of chloroplatinic acid modified with octyl alcohol, for example at 70-120 deg.C, to give (trichloro)silylpropyl (meth)acrylate expressed by formula III, which is then reacted with hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. hexamethylphosphoric amide, at for example, ordinary temperature, to afford a compound expressed by formula IV. The resultant compound expressed by formula IV is then hydrolyzed in the presence of sodium hydrogencarbonate in a mixed solvent of toluene and water.
