PURPOSE:To improve deterioration of capacity in high rate discharge and reduce voltage delay in the initial stage of discharge by forming carbon layer on the inner surface of negative container and the surface of metal current collector. CONSTITUTION:The inner surface of a negative container 1 which also serves as a negative terminal is coated with colloidal carbon to form a carbon layer. A negative electrode 2 comprising metallic sodium is pressed against the carbon layer. A positive collector is accommodated in a hollow part through a basket type separator comprising glass fiber nonwoven fabric. The collector 3 consists of a porous carbon body 5 and a cylindrical metal current collector 6 arranged inside the hollow part of the carbon body 5. A carbon layer is previously formed on the surface of the current collector 6. A positive terminal 9 is connected to the current collector, and an electrolyte 11 comprising thionyl chloride solution into which LiAlCl4 is dissolved is poured inside the hollow part of the current collector 6. Thereby, deterioration of capacity in high rate discharge is improved and voltage delay in the initial stage of discharge is reduced. |
