806,794. Gas turbine plant. TECHNISCHE STUDIEN A.G., FUR. Oct. 12, 1956 [Oct. 12, 1955], No. 31156/56. Class 110 (3). Gaseous working medium is compressed in at least one compressor and, after being heated, is expanded in a turbine driving the compressor and a variable-speed output turbine having at least one stage traversed radially inwardly, the output turbine being in parallel with at least one stage of the turbine driving the compressor. In the closed-circuit plant shown, the working medium is compressed by a compressor 1 and passes in succession through a preheater 2 in which it is heated by turbine exhaust, a heatexchanger 3 in which it is further heated by the combustion of fuel supplied through a line 7, and a turbine 4 which drives the compressor, returning to the compressor by way of the preheater 2 and a heat-exchanger 6 in which is cooled by water. The medium also passes through useful-output turbine 5, which is connected in parallel either with the whole of the turbine 4 or with part of it, preferably the output stage, as shown. The turbine 5 is of radiallyinward-flow type, and drives a variable-speed load such as a ship propeller 11, reversing being effected by adjustable inlet guide blades. There may be additional radial-flow or axial-flow stages. The power output and speed of the turbine 5 can be increased by supplying additional working medium to the circuit from a reservoir 12, thereby increasing the density and pressure of the medium. The power output and speed of the turbine 4 also rise, to provide the necessary increase in the compression ratio of the compressor 1.
