1506392 Spray-dried nonionic surfactant powder UNILEVER Ltd 7 May 1975 [9 May 1974] 20449/74 Heading C5D A spray-dried detergent powder containing a nonionic surfactant as the major organic detergentactive ingredient is prepared by forming an aqueous slurry comprising (A) the nonionic surfactant (other than an alkanolamide) (B) an alkaline material in an amount equivalent to at least 5% of sodium oxide and (C) ¢ to 6% of an alkanolamide (the amount being expressed by wt. of the base powder) and spray-drying the aqueous slurry. (A) is preferably an ethoxylated aliphatic alcohol which may be straight or branched chain, e.g. a C 11 -C 15 or C 14 -C 15 secondary alcohol ethoxylate with 7, 9, 12 or 15 moles of ethylene oxide per mole of alcohol, or an ethoxylated alkyl phenol, e.g. nonylphenol with 8, 10, 12 or 15 moles of ethylene oxide. (B) may be sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate or sodium silicate (SiO 2 : Na 2 O ratio of 16:1 to 2:1). (C) may be mono- or dialkanolamides, e.g. lauric mono- or di-ethanolamide, coconut ethanolamides, tallow ethanolamides, palm kernel ethanolamides, or a mixture thereof. The aqueous slurry may also contain (D) up to 5% of soap, alkyl sulphate and/or alkyl benzene sulphonate (E) 25 to 60% wt. of sodium tripolyphosphate (F) reducing agents such as sodium sulphite or sodium thiosulphate (G) conventional additives. The spray-dried powder may be formulated into a detergent powder, together with further detergent ingredients such as sodium perborate. |
