PURPOSE:To form uniform stripe plating having fine appearance on a steel strip in the lateral direction when stripe plating of Sn, Ni or the like having superior weldability is formed on the steel strip in the lateral direction by using an anode roll having plural grooves in the lateral direction. CONSTITUTION:When stripe plating of Sn, Ni or the like is formed on the steel strip for a can so as to improve the weldability, the steel strip 6 is brought into contact with an anode roll 2 having plural grooves 1 and insulators 3 arranged alternately in the lateral direction. The electrode 4 of the anode roll 2 as the anode is exposed through the grooves 1. A plating soln. is fed into the grooves 1 and while electric current is supplied using the steel strip 6 as the cathode, the anode roll 2 is rotated. Uniform stripe plating of Sn or Ni having fine appearance can be formed on the steel strip 6 in the lateral direction in which the steel strip 6 is allowed to contact with the grooves 1.
