PURPOSE:To make the start of a compressor etc. by means of a single shaft gas turbine smooth by throttling a variable diffuser vane etc. to reduce the specific gravity and flow rate of a fluid sucked into said compressor and preventing the starting curves of said single shaft gas turbine and said compressor, etc. from intersecting with each other. CONSTITUTION:When starting a compressor 2 with a single shaft gas turbine 1, valves A, B, D are fully opened, reducing the specific gravity of air in piping by means of a vacuum pump 5. In this case, a valve F is fully opened. Then, a variable diffuser vane 3 is throttled to reduce flow rate in order to prevent a point of intersection of the starting torque curve of the single shaft gas turbine 1 and the starting torque curve of the compressor (load side). Then, the single shaft gas turbine 1 is started and, after the start is completed, the suction valve A is gradually opened, to apply load to the turbine 1. Further, the blow-off valve B and the valve D are opened, and the valve F is totally closed and, when a rated load is obtained, the variable diffuser vane 3 is opened. Thereby, the compressor, etc. can be smoothly started by means of the single shaft turbine 1.
