In order to prevent a ship from being sunk by torpedoes it is known to surround it by nets to catch, or otherwise obstruct the torpedo. In the present arrangement, a net is launched into the path of the torpedo, thus catching or slowing it sufficiently to make it harmless. The net may be launched in a missile-like manner from a weapon of the mortar type and may be sonar controlled.
