PURPOSE:To accurately cut a long-size material such as a thick-board slab, etc. to a target cutting length by correcting the position of a cutter based on the position of the end of said material after said slab has rebounded from a gauge stopper and stopped, and carrying out cutting. CONSTITUTION:A gauge stopper 2 is positioned so as to obtain a set cutting length L with the starting point P1 of a cutting torch 4 as a reference. At the same time, an end detector 5 is moved to a lower course side and set roughly in a position of L-alpha. Then, a conveying table 3 is moved to convey a slab M. And, when the end of the slab M is detected by means of the end detector 5, a stop command is immediately issued to the conveying table 3. Then, the conveying table 3 is stopped and, after a certain time has elapsed, the end detector 5 is advanced to the lower course side and the position of the end of the stopped slab is stored as L3. After that, the set cutting length L is compared with L3, to obtain epsilon=L-L3=L4 by means of an arithmetic unit, and the position of the cutting torch 4 is retracted to the upper course side, its position is corrected, and cutting is carried out at the corrected position. |
