PURPOSE:To obtain a one-way inflow of oil into both a in-cylinder chamber and an oil pressure chamber and to eliminate the air mixed in the oil so as to obtain good performance by installing an orifice, which is connected to the oil pressure chamber and is open at the cam-lifter contact surface, in the bottom of a hydraulic lifter. CONSTITUTION:A hydraulic lifter 1 contains a cylinder 2 which is instered therein. The bottom of the lifter 1 is brought into contact with a check valve consisting of a ball valve body 4, which is usually closed by pressure by means of a small spring 6 and is used to open a connecting hole 3. An oil pressure chamber 7 is formed between the bottom of the hydraulic lifter 1 and that of the cylinder 2, in which space a return spring 8 is interposed. An orifice 13, which is connected to the oil pressure chamber 7, is installed in the bottom of the hydraulic lifter 1, while a thin hole 10', which is always open, is made in a push-rod 9. With this contrivance, despite the fact that the orifice 13 is installed to the oil pressure chamber, the inflow of oil into both in-cylinder chamber 2 and the oil pressure chamber 7 takes the form of a one-way flow without being mixed with air, thereby ensuring good performance.
