<p>A method for increasing the content of germanium in vegetables for maintaining freshness, which comprises applying an organic or inorganic germanium compound to the surface and/or inside of vegetables by proper means. An example of the organic germanium compound is carboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide, and an example of the inorganic germanium compound is germanium dioxide. The organic or inorganic germanium compound can be applied as an aqueous solution by, for example, dipping vegetables in the aqueous solution, by spraying the solution over vegetables, or by urging vegetables to absorb the solution through roots or the like.</p> |
