PURPOSE:To form a thick steel plate free from variance in mechanical strength by compensating the temperature of a thick steel plate, cooled to a leveling temperature after hot rolling it, by using an induction heating device and passing the plate to a hot leveler after eliminating the variance of its temperature. CONSTITUTION:A thick steel plate, rolled by a hot mill 1, is cooled to the temperature range of 400-800 deg.C by a water cooling device 2. The temperature at each part of this plate is detected by a temperature detector 3, and its result is inputted, as a temp. information, to a temp. control device. An induction heating device 4 is actuated by a signal obtained by the operation of this temp. control device, and the plate is passed through the device 4 to make the temp. of its whole body uniform by compensating its temp. and is sent to a hot leveler 5 to level it. Thus, a thick steel plate uniform in mechanical strength is obtained stably and in high yield.
