PURPOSE:To enable to print according to a predetermined format of a paper, by correcting margin positions or tab positions either automatically or by an operator's choice when a deviation from a prescribed position is detected at an end of an inserted paper. CONSTITUTION:The presence or absence of a paper 31 is detected through a change in a detection level, and when the paper 31 is absent, a carriage is moved to a left margin LM. When the paper 31 is present, the carriage is moved rightward by a one-character amount at a time until the end of the paper is detected while reading an output from a photosensor, thereby calculating the deviation R of the paper end in terms of the number of characters. In the case of automatic correction, a new left margin LM-R, a new right margin RM-R and new tabs Tab1-R and Tab2-R are calculated, and the carriage is moved to the new left margin LM-R. In the case of manual correction, the size of the left margin LM for the inserted paper 31 is calculated in terms of number of characters on the basis of a preset left margin LM and the deviation R, is displayed on a display device, and a line format is corrected when a converting key is depressed. |
