PURPOSE:To obtain an aryloxyalkanol sulfonate smoothly, in moderate heterogeneous reaction system, by reacting an aryloxyalkanol with sulfonyl halide in the presence of a base in a polar solvent. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound such as beta-phenoxyethyltoluene sulfonate can be produced by reacting an aryloxyalkanol with an aliphatic or aromatic sulfonyl halide, preferably chloride, bromide or fluoride, in a polar solvent such as acetonitrile, methyl ethyl ketone, etc., using an organic or inorganic base (e.g. caustic soda, caustic potash, etc.) as a dehydrohalogenation agent.
